‘Waterfalls of Japan’ from the ‘War’ collection

“Whereas the original design depicts a somewhat wistful and contrived cultural stereotype, the manipulation of only five ‘stixels’ (stitched picture elements), in a design of over five thousand, catalyses a profound shift. Rather than gazing indeterminately at a waterfall, the subject’s now valedictory focus traces a distant falling object. The rapidly descending atomic bomb, promising to destroy this scene, serves to remind us that the destructive power of human weaponry is surpassed only by the tragedy arising from its use.”
